Leaning Into
Lent
Prayer. Fasting. Giving money to the poor. It all seems a little intense, doesn't it? Yet the season of Lent (Feb 18-Mar 29) isn't meant to be burden. It's supposed to be a relief: a time to slow down, look inward and ask ourselves what really matters. In preparation for Holy Week (Mar 29-Apr 3) and Easter (Apr 5), we draw near to God, and reset our spirits.

Ash Wednesday & Lent
We mark our foreheads with ashes, to remember that our lives on earth are not forever. We came from the dust of the earth, and we'll return there (Genesis 3:19). So we commit to making every day count. In our personal lives, we adopt spiritual practices. We pray, both on Sunday and pother days. Maybe we fast...from a food, from social media, or from some other distraction. And we give, with the goal of helping the poor.

Holy Week and Easter
We tell the story of Jesus' final week in Jerusalem. On Palm/Passion Sunday (Mar 29, 8 & 10:30am), we remember how the crowds greeted him with palm branches, then tell the story of his arrest and painful death. On Maundy Thursday (April 2, 7pm) we tell the story of his Last Supper with his friends, and his final commandment: Love one another. On Good Friday (April 3, 7pm), we reflect on the great gift Jesus gave in offering his life for us. On Easter morning (April 5, 8am & 10:30am) we react with awe and great joy at the news that Jesus is alive again!
